We are very excited to announce that Kalamazoo’s own blue grass band, Schlitz Creek will be playing at our reception!
Taken from their website:
“Combining a rowdy approach with lots of good old, down home humor, the boys began playing their music in the bowling alleys, beer gardens, and pool halls of Southwest Michigan in 2002. After years of dedicated practice and public performing experience, the band’s popularity has grown and their schedule is now regularly filled with events throughout the midwest ranging from weddings to Woodstock-like folk festivals. These boys aren’t in it to hit it big; they refuse to release recordings of their music, claiming to be a band that must be seen live in person to be truly appreciated. For them, it’s about having a good time while bringing bluegrass music to new friends and neighbors across the land.
Band members include: master diesel mechanic Nick Deaton on banjo, legendary Jeep climber Dave Dekema on Martin guitar, published illustrator John Speeter on mandolin, and classic country music radio disc jockey Nick Griffith on upright bass.”
John Speeter is also my uncle and had a profound impact on me growing up. We are also hoping for an appearance by the Mudslide the Bluesman!
